About Run to Bed
Hi! My name is Owen West and my Eagle Scout project for the Kenosha/Racine chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace (SHP) is a bedding drive and a 5K race. Our local SHP chapter has capped their bed request at 250 kids but they estimate that it is well over 5,000 kids in our area that need beds. My goal for the project is to get 100 bedding set donations so SHP doesn’t have to worry about getting bedding for the amazing beds they build.
If you want to help out with this project please sign up for our race either in-person or virtual or if you don’t want to race you can send a donation to help out Sleep in Heavenly Peace. Please help spread the word about this event and help raise awareness of this organization!
About Me
I first got introduced to Sleep in Heavenly Peace at their first bed build back in 2018 and had a blast building beds. Earlier this year, I did my first bed delivery right before the COVID-19 shutdown which was eye opening but also fun to bring joy to the four kids that I helped deliver beds to. I think that SHP is an amazing organization and I can’t wait to do another bed build and a bed delivery once it is safe to do so.
The reason I chose Sleep in Heavenly Peace and to do a bedding drive and 5K was because out of the few organizations that I have done service for I remembered the bed build the most and realized that not many people know about them and what they do. I also didn’t want to do a regular building project for my Eagle Scout project so I decided to do something I’m passionate about which is running. I did some research and found multiple scouts from around the U.S. that had done 5Ks and most of them were either raising awareness of an organization or holding a drive; so I thought what about a bedding drive which would get SHP bedding they need and it would also raise awareness of their organization and the great work they do.
I have been a Varsity runner for Tremper for the last 3 years and hopefully this year as well. I was a captain on the cross country team last year. I also raced Varsity for two track seasons (this year got canceled before there were any meets).
I am excited to combine two things I care about into this project. Thank you for your support!
